Token Counter privacy policy
Last updated: October 8, 2026
Token Counter is a browser extension that shows your Claude usage limits. This policy describes exactly what it does with data — which is very little.
What the extension collects
Nothing. The extension does not collect, store on any server, sell or share any personal data, browsing history, conversation content or usage statistics. It has no accounts, no tracking and no third-party analytics inside the extension.
What stays in your browser
The extension keeps a small amount of data in your browser's local extension storage
(chrome.storage.local): your settings (plan, whether the bar is shown, which
number the toolbar icon shows), the latest usage percentages and reset times read from
claude.ai, a short local log used only as a fallback estimate, and the state of the rating prompt —
up to five dates on which you used the extension and whether you have answered or
dismissed the prompt. This data never leaves your device and is deleted automatically
when you remove the extension.
Network requests
The extension talks to exactly one site: claude.ai. It reads the same usage endpoint that Claude's own settings page uses, authenticated by your existing claude.ai session — through an open claude.ai tab when there is one, otherwise from its background service worker — to show your official session and weekly limit percentages on the toolbar icon, in its tooltip, in the popup and in the bar under the chat. It checks about once a minute while your usage is changing and about every five minutes otherwise, and also when you open the popup or a Claude reply finishes. The latest percentages and reset times are kept only in your browser's local extension storage. No request is ever sent to any other server, and nothing about you is transmitted to the extension's developer.
Pages the extension opens
- After installation it opens a one-time welcome page, and after removal your browser opens a feedback page — both are ordinary web pages hosted on GitHub Pages. They may use standard, anonymous web analytics.
- If you click a star in the rating prompt, a new tab opens: the Chrome Web Store reviews page for 4–5 stars, or a feedback page on GitHub Pages for 1–3 stars. The rating itself is not sent anywhere.
- Feedback you choose to submit on the removal page or on the feedback page (a reason, an optional comment and, on the feedback page, an optional email address) is sent to the developer via Google Forms. Submitting it is entirely optional and it contains only what you type — no identifiers are attached by the page. An email address is used only to reply to you.
Permissions, explained
- storage — to remember your settings, the latest percentages and the rating prompt state locally.
- alarms — to wake the extension about once a minute so the percentages on the toolbar icon stay current, and to show 0% exactly when a limit resets.
- Access to claude.ai — to read your usage limits and show the bar under the chat. The extension runs only on claude.ai and nowhere else.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new date above.
