AI Typer privacy policy
Last updated: October 8, 2026
AI Typer is a browser extension for Google Docs. It writes a draft from your request and types it into your document key by key, at a human pace. This policy describes exactly what it does with your data.
The short version
- There is no account, and there are no analytics or trackers inside the extension.
- The extension cannot read the text of your documents, and nothing from a document is sent anywhere.
- One thing leaves your browser: the request you write when you ask AI for a draft. Text you paste yourself is never sent.
What is sent, and when
The extension talks to one server, the AI Typer server, and only in two cases:
- When you press Write draft or Write again: the text of your request (up to 1,000 characters), the length and tone you chose, a random install ID and the version of the extension.
- When the panel checks how many AI drafts you have left today: the install ID and the version of the extension.
The install ID is a random identifier created on your device when the extension is installed. It is not linked to your Google account, your name or your email address. As with every request on the internet, the server also sees your IP address.
What the server does with it
- It passes the text of your request, with instructions for the chosen length and tone, to the AI model service that writes the draft. The service runs the GLM language model and is reached through an API gateway. The install ID and your IP address are not passed to it.
- It does not store the text of your request or the text of the draft, and does not write them to its log.
- To enforce the limit of 5 AI drafts a day, it counts drafts per install ID. To protect the service from abuse, it also counts drafts per IP address; the address is kept only as a salted hash, never as the address itself. These counters are deleted automatically within three days.
- To share the daily budget fairly between new and existing installs, it keeps two dates for each install ID: the day of its first AI draft and the day of its latest one. They are deleted automatically within 32 days of the latest draft.
- For each draft request it writes one line to its log: the time, the response status, the chosen length and tone, the number of tokens used, the number of attempts and how long the request took. Once a day it may also log the total spend of the service for that day, which contains no data about users.
- The server runs on Cloudflare. As the hosting provider, Cloudflare processes every request to the server, including your IP address.
Nothing is sold, and nothing is used for advertising or for any purpose other than writing your draft and enforcing the limits. The hosting provider's own policy: Cloudflare.
What never leaves your browser
- The text of your documents. The extension cannot read it.
- The title and the address of a document. The extension uses them only on your device: to tell a document from other pages and to show the name of the document in its panel.
- Text you paste yourself, and the changes you make to an AI draft.
- Your typing settings and the progress of typing.
What stays in your browser
- In the extension's storage (
chrome.storage.local): your settings (typing speed, rhythm, typos and your last choices of length, tone and text source), the random install ID, the last known number of drafts left today, the number of finished typing runs and the state of the rating block (whether you rated or closed it). - In session memory (
chrome.storage.session), cleared when you close the browser: your request, the text to be typed, the name of the document it is typed into, and the state of writing and typing.
None of this is synced to other devices, and all of it is deleted when you remove the extension.
Permissions, explained
- sidePanel — the whole interface of the extension is the Chrome side panel.
- storage — to keep the items listed above in your browser.
- scripting — to start working in documents that were already open when the extension was installed or updated, without reloading the page.
- Access to
docs.google.com/document/*(Chrome shows it as “Read and change your data on docs.google.com”) — to type into the document you have open and to show a small status bar with Pause and Stop on its page. Chrome grants this access for the whole docs.google.com site, so the extension can also see the addresses and titles of your Google Sheets and Slides tabs. It does not run on those pages; it only checks that they are not documents.
Pages the extension opens
- After installation it opens a one-time welcome page, and after removal your browser opens a feedback page. Both are ordinary web pages hosted on GitHub Pages. They may use standard web analytics.
- Like other websites, these pages and this policy are served by third parties: GitHub Pages hosts them and Google Fonts provides the typeface. Both receive your IP address and basic browser details when a page loads.
- After a finished typing run, from the second one on, the panel shows a Rate AI Typer block with five stars. Clicking 4 or 5 stars opens the extension's reviews page in the Chrome Web Store; clicking 1 to 3 stars opens a short Google Forms feedback form with the number of stars filled in. The form asks what went wrong and, if you would like a reply, for your email address; both are optional. It sends nothing until you submit it, and the address is used only to answer you. The extension itself sends nothing when you click a star.
- Feedback you choose to submit on the removal page (a reason and an optional comment) is sent to the developer via Google Forms, and only when you press Send feedback. It contains only what you pick and type; the page attaches no identifiers.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new date above.
